All materials copyrighted

Scroll down past article for Cinco De Mayo Pin tutorial

Help your toddlers show their Cinco de Mayo spirit with a quick and easy pin. A pin that represents the colors and spirit of Mexico: green, white, and red. It truly is a great project for toddlers. It helps improve their fine motor skills and helps them learn repeating patterns.

Supplies:

    1 - 1" x 2" chipboard
    1 - 3/4 " silver bar pin back
    6 - 1" green tissue paper squares
    6 - 1" white tissue paper squares
    6 - 1" red tissue paper squares
    1- Green acrylic paint
    1- Tacky Glue
    1 - E-6000 Industrial Strength Cement
    1 - Paint brush
    1 - Scissors

Instructions:
  1. Paint chipboard with green acrylic paint: top, bottom, and sides. Let dry.

    Supplies Needed

  2. Spread Tacky Glue on top of painted chipboard.

    Spread glue on chipboard

  3. While glue is still wet, adhere tissue paper to chipboard. Wrap a single square of tissue paper around the tip of paint brush. Then press firmly down into the glue, on the chipboard, and release.

    Add tissue paper to chipboard.

  4. Continue step three with the rest of your tissue paper until the entire chipboard is covered: alternating between green, white, and red. Create 6 columns with 3 rows by alternating the colors on each column or by alternating the colors on each row. Let dry.

Add pin to back of chipboard.

  5. Turn chipboard over and adhere pin to the back of the chipboard using E-6000 adhesive. Let dry.

  6. Use scissors to trim the top and sides of the tissue paper so that it looks well manicured.
