Before becoming a Mobile Notary Public, what did you do?
Before becoming a traveling notary I was a stay at home Mom.
When did you start to become a Mobile Notary Public and how did it all come about?
About two years ago, my mother-in-law said that this would be a perfect business for me to start.
It allowed flexibility and I could run my business out of my home and still be there for my kids.
What was the most difficult part about the notary test?
I think the most difficult part was before I even went to take the test. I had myself all worked up
and I didn't want to not pass it. When I took the test, I was one of the first people done. When I
walked out I knew I had passed it. It was the greatest feeling!
Do you belong to any associations for your type of business and if so, which ones? Have they helped
to boost your business or simply inform you?
I don't belong to any associations and have done fine on my own. In the beginning I didn't join to keep
my start up costs low. After that, it just didn't happen and I have done fine.
I understand that you are a Witness Only Loan Document Signing Service,
what is that exactly?
A witness only loan document signer is basically the person who is contacted by another source to complete the loan process.
You meet with the borrowers and go over certain aspects of their loan and show them where to sign or initial. You notarize
documents as needed and forward them onto the appropriate person.
Would it be safe to assume that you are making a steady $2,000 a month before expenses?
I do make a steady $2,000 and up.
What do you do that keeps your clients coming back to you time and again?
I have a great clientele. I think it is because I am willing to go the extra mile for them. I realize that
there are times when they really need my help and I will do whatever it takes to follow through with them
and in return they always give me their business. We are faithful to each other. I am professional and
will follow through with the job until the end.
You do this business out of your home, correct?
I do this business out of my home, yes. That is the great thing about this job is that I am here for my girls
when they need me to be.
How do you juggle family life, friends and an in-home business that takes you away from your home?
Juggling my family life, friends and work is where it gets tricky.
I want to be the best Mom that I can be and so this takes priority over all things!
I make a point of depending on my appointment book a lot! It is with me always. If the kids have something at school
I write it in and if I make plans with friends it is in there also. If I get a call for work I tell them I have another
appointment at that time and I am not available.
I know when my kids have gymnastics or need to be picked up from school. I do my work in between these times. I am not
saying it is easy but it does work for me.
There are days when I feel that I can't go on anymore but the next two days I may not have any work at all and I tell
myself if I can just get through this day I have two days off to catch up and relax.
What is the most difficult part of your job?
I would say the most difficult part of my job is doing the juggling act. The end of the month gets a little crazy at
times but I always look for the light at the end of the tunnel and that keeps me going.
Have you encountered any unique, possibly humorous experiences as a Mobile Notary Public?
I would say the worst thing that has happened to me was when I went to close a loan and this man had about 10 dogs
and from the moment I walked in the door they jumped on me. When I sat down at the table they kept jumping on my lap.
These were big dogs!
All of a sudden I looked down and this big male dog was peeing on my bag! I yelled at this man, telling him that his
dog had just peed on my bag. He simply got a dry towel and wiped it off. I told the man he needed to put the dogs
out and he said 'NO.' So, I got up and walked away. I had to throw that bag away and buy a new one because there was no
way I would take that bag anywhere! I wish I could of sent him the bill on that one!
Do you associate with any other Notary Publics, besides your mother-in-law?
I don't associate with any other Notary Publics.
If another mom came to you, to ask to do what you do, what advice would you give?
I would tell this other Mom that I feel very blessed to have what I feel is the most perfect
job in the world. Where else can a Mom stay at home with her family and make good money.
Even when I did work what did I make? Maybe $7 or $8 an hour? And then to be away from my
baby for 10 hours a day. Now I get the best of both worlds.
I can still be with my kids when they need me most and participate 100% in all activities
that they are involved in and still help out with some nice extra income. This job has opened
many new doors for my family and I am very thankful, everyday.
You never know when this business will fade so I am thankful for what it has provided us with now.
If it happens that I can't do this job for just one more day then I was very lucky for awhile. I
a people person and when I meet with some of these people they are very thankful for me and my help.
I feel I provide a real service to them and they very much appreciate it. I am the one to make them
feel comfortable with what they are signing and if I don't do my job right I could be the one to
make or break a loan deal.
