Affiliate Marketing Tips
Whether you want to be a super affiliate who builds a website solely for the purpose of referring others to certain products and/or services, or simply someone who wants to earn a little extra cash on the side, implementing affiliate marketing tactics on your website (or blog) can be a great way increase revenue.
These quick tips offer some insight into earning top-notch income through affiliate programs:
- Join affiliate programs that only relate to the theme of your website, or blog.
- Find affiliate programs that give you a good return on your investment.
If you simply plan to place a link on your site and wait for the sales to come in, consider programs that offer a residual income, versus a one-shot deal.
If, however, you plan to heavily promote an affiliate program through various ad campaigns, consider a program that pays a commission based upon each sale, and chose a commission that is between 24 and 50 percent of the product cost.
- Know your target audience.
- Only offer affiliate programs that relate to your target audience.
- Invest your time, creativity, and money in promoting your site.
- Increase traffic to your site by creating web pages that showcase each individual affiliate program and/or product.
- Add relevant content to enhance the reasons your audience would want to purchase that particular product or service.
- Give your audience specifics as to why the product or service works, and don't be afraid to list the pros and cons.
- Get to know the product by purchasing it yourself, then focus on the strong points in your ad campaigns.
- Place real testimonies on your website, from real people who have actually purchased the product or service through you and were satisfied.
- Do not spam people with your affiliate link—not in emails, not on message boards, not in chat rooms, not on social networks, and not on your blog.
- Build relationships online. If you can answer a legitimate question by referring someone to your affiliate, then do so tactfully.
- Send time-sensitive announcements about your affiliate program (product or service) in newsletters or advertisements, where your audience is most likely to act.
- Use your affiliate link in your signature line and change it often; to keep it fresh.
- Distribute a free e-book or pamphlet with your affiliate link(s) inside.
- Log into your affiliate account from time to time to see what's new, then act on those changes.
- Select affiliate programs carefully. It is your reputation on the line.
- Don't spread yourself too thin between too many affiliate programs and/or businesses.
- Have affiliate links open up in another window so you don't lose traffic.
- Make sure the affiliate program you are promoting doesn't have another buy option or links to other products that direct traffic away from your affiliate id.
- When promoting your affiliate program through pay-per-click (ppc) advertisements make sure your ad lands on your site, not your affiliate program's site. Also make sure your ad links to the product discussed in the ad, not your homepage.
And the most important tip of all, have patience. Affiliate marketing is not an overnight get rich quick scheme, in order for it to effectively work you must promote your affiliates every single day.
