There’s a saying that goes something like this, “ideas are a dime a dozen and you cannot copyright a single one.” The upside to this
statement is that anyone with half a brain can take an existing business idea, expand on it, and create a new business—so long as it
doesn’t infringe upon the other company’s copyright, trademark, or patent.
While business ideas are truly a dime a dozen, it can be difficult to find the right business because there are so many things to
consider, such as time constraints, financial obligations, legalities, personal talents and skills, and the need for supplies and
merchandise. And if that isn’t enough, finding the right business idea also takes self-discovery, trial and error, and plenty of
research.
Yet, the idea of operating a small business from home can make any parent’s heart skip a beat. After all, what parent wouldn’t want the
flexibility of working around his (or her) family’s busy schedule, to earn an income with kids underfoot, or to spend the day doing
something he absolutely loves?
The important thing to keep in mind when looking for a business idea is to make sure it’s something you’ll enjoy doing long before it
earns a profit, it’s something that your potential customers not only want but need, and that it can work around your current
responsibilities until you have enough business or income to leave the security of your current job.
