Craft and Art Projects Wanted
We are interested in very targeted, niche e-books that promote a single craft or art idea. An e-book of this nature could sell for $6.99 to $9.99 each.
Your e-book needs to include:
- Introduction.
Who are you? How did you get started? Is there a history behind this particular project?
Anything the reader should know that won't be included in the following information?
- A list of materials.
What items are needed to make the project? Any specific weights?
What do the items look like, and where can they be found?
- A glossary of terms.
Think about a beginner who just wants to make your project and knows nothing about the industry itself.
- Step by Step Instructions.
Again, this is a person who knows nothing about your project and has never crafted before.
Take her through the process one step at a time. Explain each step.
- Photographs.
What does each step look like? How does the project look as it progresses along?
What does the finished project look like from all angles: front, back, side?
- Variations
Do you have tips for making variations of the same project? How can the reader put her own unique twist on the project?
- Gallery
Show off variations of this project via photographs.
Looking For Substance In Our E-books
We’re looking for non-fiction e-books that are very niche-specific. We want e-books that instruct, educate, inform, teach, and
inspire. We want e-books that do not reiterate the free information found on the Internet. We don't want recycled information. We want
e-books based on real, “hands on experience;” not book knowledge. If you aren't an expert in the field you're writing about, you'll need
include lots of quotes from those who are (not book quotes).
Query First
Please query us with your e-book’s topic first. Do not send us your completed manuscript unless we request you to do so. If you
send unsolicited manuscripts we won’t read them. Your book should be proofed by a professional before you submit the completed manuscript.
Acceptance Policy
The first thing you should know is that we are a Christian publication. While the books we sell do NOT need to mention Christianity, we
do not accept books that go against our Christian beliefs.
Click this link to view our statement of beliefs before submitting your manuscript.
We require a review copy of your e-book before we agree to partner with you. If we feel your book would make a good fit, but needs a
little more work, we'll suggest changes and/or additions. If you agree to make those changes and/or adjustments, we'll take another look
at your book. If we like what we see, we'll send you a contract.
While we work with self-published authors, the material we accept must be up to par with the publishing industry’s standards.
Marketing and PR Requires Teamwork
The the success of your e-book, depends on you. You'll have to do your part to help sell your e-book and bring traffic to your e-book's
sales page.
If we agree to partner with you, we'll work TOGETHER to promote your e-book through the following methods:
- We'll write and monitor search engine friendly copy for the e-book's sales page (on our website).
- We'll publicize your e-book in one of our e-newsletters -- when it matches the theme of that issue or as a classified ad. (Minimum 3 times per year.)
- We'll promote your e-book through the promotion of our e-book store as a whole.
- We'll interview you, via email, for our writing and/or business center and then distribute that interview, as a reprint, to various
online publications. (It's up to the publications to decide if they'll use the interview.)
- If you have an article relating to your e-book's theme, or an excerpt from your e-book, that fits our publication's needs, we'll
run it as well! And include your e-book's cover, a brief review, and a link back to your sales page (if we place it on our website).
- We'll require six (6) 100 word tips to be used each year -- throughout the year -- in the appropriate newsletter based on the
content of your e-book. These tips will act like advertisements, without actually appearing as advertisements, and include a link to the
sales page of your e-book. We will not pay for these tips, but once they've appeared in our e-zine, you can submit them as reprints or a
column to other topical e-zines, newsletters, and magazines.
Royalties
We offer competitive royalties! In other words, while it's free to list your e-book on this website, we do require a percentage of every
sale made through this website. We offer two options to choose from:
Non-exclusive contract allows you to sell your e-book on other websites.
Your efforts for marketing your e-book are split among various websites, instead of focusing on one retail location.
- 50/50 split for books priced under $20.
- 60/40 split, in author's favor, for books priced over $20.
Exclusive contract means you can ONLY sell your e-book on this website.
Your efforts for marketing your e-book are concentrated on one retail location.
We are both working towards sending targeted prospects to your e-book's sales page.
- 60/40 split, in author's favor, for books priced under $20.
- 70/30 split, in author's favor, for books priced over $20.
Royalties are paid monthly, provided your royalties are $25 or more. We do not pay advances.
Rights
While you, the author, remain the sole owner of your copyright, we do require you to to sign a legal and binding contract.
The contract may be terminated with a 30-day written notice.
The Book's Format
While your content will vary depending on the type of book you've written, we like your books to use the following format:
- Title/Cover Page
- Copyright Notice/Legal Disclaimers
- About The Author
- Table of Contents
- Preface
- Introduction
- Chapters
- Closing/Final Thoughts
- Forms
- Resources
- Appendix
- The Dabbling Mum Sales Page
Mentions your other books sold on our site as well as our free magazine and newsletter.
What We Want To See
- We like books written from first-hand experience.
- Your book should be written in such a way that it has the reader feeling as though you are speaking directly to him/her. (To do this, use "you.")
- Your book should be written with the intent of "selling the store." In other words, don't hold back.
- Your book should offer a step-by-step approach that flows from beginning to end. There shouldn't be any gaps or confusion.
- Any side thoughts should be saved for the appendix and/or articles to help promote the book.
- Your book should be written with "you" as the authority.
- Expert quotes and/or statistics should help solidify your facts, they should not make up the bulk of your book.
- Your book shouldn't sound like a broken record. While it's okay to mention something later in the book that you discussed in the beginning
of the book, the reader should never stop to think, "Didn't I just read that in chapter 1 and 5 and 8?"
- Your book should be written for someone who doesn't understand industry jargon. If you must use industry jargon, include a dictionary,
written in your own words, in the back of the book.
- Your book should never include paragraphs of information taken from other sources. If you must include an excerpt of something, make sure
you get written permission from the author (which we'll want a copy of), and site the source. In other words, always give credit where it's due.
- Links should be relevant. They should only be included to enhance your topic or to offer more clarity. They should link directly to the
page that covers the material you are discussing. While it's okay to include some affiliate links within the text of your book, most of your links
should take the reader to a web page that can be used as a free resource.
- We do NOT accept e-books that are nothing more than directories or forms. While we love e-books filled with resource lists and forms, every
e-book we sell MUST include information that supports, backs ups, and explains the forms. In other words, the content of the
e-book must be able to stand on its own merits. The forms and resource lists are added bonuses, not the main content.
- Workbooks make wonderful e-books, but if your workbook is based on another book we won't be able to sell it here unless you can write the
workbook in such a way that it can be a stand-alone product.
- To get a better understanding of the types of e-books we like, may we suggest you order our very own,
Tid-Bits For Making Money With E-books? In our e-book,
you'll discover the secrets that make an e-book a selling e-book.
Disclaimer
Providing a review copy of your e-book does not guarantee we'll sell or recommend it.
If we feel your e-book is off to a great start but needs more information to reach our target audience, we'll send you a detailed email
with instructions on how to improve your manuscript. At that time, we hope that you'll take us up on the suggestions and revise the e-book
to meet the needs of our target audience and our publishing house. If, however, you decide you don't want to use the suggestions, we
won't be able to promote your e-book.
If we feel your e-book isn't right for our publication, but is one worth recommending we'll review it and distribute the review to a
networking group of publishers. Read more about our review process, Click here.
Your Print Book Contract And Our Electronic Rights
As long as your print publisher just takes print rights and it's specified in your contract, then we can sell your book as an electronic,
downloadable book. Just make sure you go over your contract and talk it over with your publisher first―you don't want to get into legal trouble.
