Interview With An Artist

Studio Five Series: Matt LeBlanc

Interviewer:

artist

Matt LeBlanc has always had a love for art but never put forth the effort to become an artist until three years ago when he and his wife became art collectors. After collecting a few art pieces, his love of abstract grew so strong that he went out and purchased enough supplies to create his very own Matt LeBlanc original. And that was the beginning of a wonderful journey.

In a little over three years Matt has sold close to 600 pieces of art and believes his success has come because of his ability to treat his "art as a business". He's created a brand others recognize and that helps the art sell. But even with all his success, he wouldn't be able to create art if it wasn't fun.

Matt says his abstract art is not preplanned. Though he picks primary colors to work with, or to match his clients' homes, it is completely done intuitively.

Well, I think you’ll agree that Matt’s art is truly abstract and rich in both texture and style.

Studio Inspiration

Below are 4 photographs, taken by Matt, in his studio. Along with those photos are explanations on why the images in those photos are an important part of his studio.

"My studio is located in my newly built home. I have over 20 lights to make sure my studio is very bright and offers lighting on each piece of art. I can showcase around 60 paintings at a time but I also have multiple 'big' paintings in my home so I usually take my clients around the house for a full tour."

"My favorite place in my studio is a long 8 foot table; which surprises artists who like to paint on easels. The table also has varying lengths of wood strips so the canvases don't move. I paint a lot of large size pieces so this setup is perfect and works really well."

"My favorite tool is a long pallet knife. I love texture. I think there are only 3 paintings I’ve done over the years that didn’t have any texture. And I really didn’t like them. To me, the texture brings a 3-D feel to the art so I create my design directly in the texture."

"This is my favorite painting and probably the best piece in terms of capturing the feeling of the room and the impact my client wanted to create. I have never seen someone so happy with a piece of art."
