Enjoy A Girl's Night In
All materials copyrighted
Tired, overworked, and stretched the max? Are you ready to get away and experience a relaxing evening without kids, bills, or other obligations?
Then you need a Girls Night In!
When life gets the best of you, it’s important to take a step back to rejuvenate your senses, your body, and your mind with an old fashioned sleepover.
Send you husband off camping with the guys, arrange sleepovers for your children, call up five of your favorite girlfriends, gather up the munchies and spa supplies and enjoy a quite (or not so quiet) evening at home.
Follow these tips for your Girls Night In and you’ll have a winning experience every time:
- Share The Load
Preparing for a Girls Night In can be exhausting and cause you to rethink your idea of “rest and relaxation” or “girl fun” so instead of doing it all yourself, enlist the help of your friends and family.
a. If your kids are old enough, ask them to help pick up the house before they head out on their sleepovers.
b. Have your husband drop the kids off before he heads out.
c. Ask the first friend to make two of her famous desserts.
d. Ask the second friend to bring the ice and the drinks.
e. Ask the third friend to rent the chick flick and provide the popcorn.
f. Ask the fourth friend to bring relaxing music and a game.
g. Ask the fifth friend to help provide the final supplies, based on your evening’s event.
h. And you bring the spa treatments!
- Plan A Theme
The most rewarding and relaxing Girls Night Ins are the ones focused on just being in the moment and enjoying the company of good friends, great food, and fun hobbies. So if you plan to make your Girls Night In a monthly, quarterly, or annual event, think themes. And to help you get your mind rolling, here are a couple of fun themes:
a. Spa Treatments
Manicures, pedicures, and facials all come to mind when thinking spa, but did you know that home massages are one of the most relaxing ways to unwind? Yet, not everyone is comfortable with having a close friend, let alone a woman, give a massage so when planning your home spa event make sure you pick a treatment that everyone is comfortable with.
Manicures and pedicures require:
- Soaks help soothe aching tired muscles, while allowing the skin to soften—making it easier to give both manicures and pedicures.
- Stones help remove dead, rough skin, leaving our feet smooth and soft.
- Clippers. Trimming long toe nails is not only good hygiene, but helps your socks last longer.
- Lotions lock in moisture and help heal cracked hands and feet.
- Sandals help keep toes separate which is great for keeping your freshly painted nails beautiful and smudge-free.
- Polish. No manicure or pedicure would be complete without a freshly painted set of nails.
b. Scrapbooks
Scrapbooks offer a wonderful way to get to know your friends better. Not only does scrapbooking allow you to let your creative juices flow, but as memories resurface, you’ll build bonds that last beyond the evening’s event.
Scrapbook nights require:
- Pictures.
No scrapbooking night would be complete without a handful of pictures. Pick photos that are crisp, clear, and full of memories.
- Acid-free glue.
Traditional glue just won’t work. You need glue designed to stick without turning your photos or your scrapbook pages yellow.
- Embellishments.
Every scrapbooker knows gluing pictures to a page in a scrapbook isn’t enough, you need to add life to the pages with extras like acid-free, archival quality papers, stickers, ribbons, and buttons.
- Sharp scissors.
Dull scissors tear photographs and ruin pictures.
c. Game Nights
Game nights should be designed to rid yourselves of the crazy, chaotic schedules in which you live by. Game nights should be first and foremost about having fun—even if it means making a fool of yourself as you play Charades® or draw stick figures in Pictionary®.
d. Movie Nights
Movie nights are nothing more than a way for you to release pent up emotions, dream of far off places, and whisk your mind off to never, never land. There’s nothing complicated about these nights. Watch a good movie, laugh and cry with friends, and talk about the scenario when it’s over.
Remember, your Girls Night In is about slowing down long enough to appreciate the friends in your life, while giving yourself time to laugh and enjoy life. So don’t plan an elaborate evening with minute-by-minute events, let the night go where it may and remember to RELAX!
