Our Child-Friendly Halloween Collection
When it comes to holiday movies, nothing compares to our favorites. As soon as the leaves begin to fall and change color I’m ready for Halloween. While I’m not a fan of those evil horror flicks that hit the box office or our television screens every Halloween, I do enjoy the nostalgia of remembering childhood Halloween activities.

When I was a little girl, my mother would take me to my Grams house where we’d walk door-to-door saying, “Trick Or Treat! Smell my feet. Give me something good to eat!” If you didn’t repeat the saying, you didn’t get the treat—it was that simple. Once our trick or treating was complete, we’d head on over to the Halloween fair where we’d enjoy an array of rides, carnival games, cotton candy, candy apples, and the hot apple cider.

When I married and had children of my own, I longed to give them the same wonderful experience, but times changed and door-to-door trick or treating wasn’t safe anymore—and the carnival no longer existed.

Then we moved to Corona, California where our church, Crossroads Christian Church, hosted a wonderful carnival in hopes of keeping children safe and allowing them to experience the joys of trick or treating. The parking lot of the church was transformed into “Truck N Treat” and the large meeting room and lawn was filled with small carnival games. On the other side of the parking lot stood simple carnival rides and right next to them where booths filled with foods and drinks. We even had a few local Christian bands entertain the crowd and provide an area for dancing.

A few years later had us relocating to five different states in a four year-time span…thus ending our wonderful Halloween tradition. But our Halloween movies always had a home in our house, thus helping us remember the good times and hopefully make new ones.
