Our Children's Thanksgiving Collection
Every year I look forward to Thanksgiving dinner because it’s filled with family traditions—all in the form of food! It’s the only meal, aside from Christmas dinner, that has a complete laundry list of favorites. There’s Marme’s green bean soup, Grams dirt pudding and nut bread, Grandma Val’s apple pie, my marshmallow yams, my son’s mashed potatoes, my husband’s honey-baked ham or seasoned turkey, my daughter’s favorite sparkling apple cider, egg nog, cranberries, and pumpkin pie! But that’s not the only reason I love Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is a time for reflecting and giving thanks for all the blessings in our lives—both large and small. It’s a time to put aside past transgressions and offer healing and forgiveness. And it’s fun to sit around a big kitchen table sharing stories of one’s youth as we stuff our bellies with goodies, clean the dinner dishes together, and then play cards. That’s a family tradition on my husband’s side and it’s one I’ve grown to love. Sometimes we play Pinochle, sometimes we play Tripoley, and sometimes we play poker…but we always compete, we always use pennies, and we always have a blast!

Whether your family tradition is watching the Macy’s parade as you prepare your Thanksgiving feast, rooting for your favorite football team, or enjoying an outdoor sport, watching a relaxing Thanksgiving movie with your family is a great way to wind down after a long day of events.

The following is our list of favorite Thanksgiving movies:

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, 1973

This is America, Charlie Brown - The Mayflower Voyagers, 1988
