Christmas for one very special little girl.
Review
Five tweeners fly alone on Christmas Eve has they head off to the “other” parent’s house. As divorced children, they’ve grown accustomed
to spending the holidays alone—on an airplane, in an airport, and even in their own homes—as they’re passed from one house to the next
but they don’t have to like it. And you’ll discover just how much they don’t like it as you get more into the movie.
When the kids get stranded in the airport, thanks to a huge blizzard, they get thrown into the “Unaccompanied Minor’s Room” –a room
without proper supervision and wildly out-of-hand kids. Tired of the chaos, five of those kids take off for a little peace of mind, the
bathroom, and food. Only their “escape” causes them to gain the attention of the head security officer—and not in a good way.
Upset that he must once again spend Christmas working at the airport, the head security officer takes his frustrations out on the kids.
The kids, however, decide his Mr. Scrooge attitude wasn’t going to spoil their Christmas so being the resourceful kids of divorced
parents, they banned together to save Christmas.
What they didn’t expect was to become a family of misfits, soften Mr. Scrooge’s heart, or discover the love of a dad who once showed no
signs of loving his children—or so they thought.
Unaccompanied Minors got a bad rap from a lot of reviewers who felt the film was a rip off of Home Alone and other like-minded
films—resulting in a “been there, done that” mentality. I, however, found the film rather enjoyable.
Sure, it has a bunch of unrealistic and often outlandish events taking place in an airport of all places, but young kids like that sort
of stuff. Kids like to use their imaginations. They like to replay scenes from old movies in their heads and make them a part of their
lives—whether it be for fun or mischief. So I say, “why not?”
Yes, Unaccompanied Minors has a lot of “I know what’s going to happen next moments” and yes, you will find yourself saying, “That can’t
really happen” but because the comedic antics are delivered without a hitch and the acting is strong, you can’t help but enjoy the film.
Heck, you may even want to add a copy to your holiday collection.
Your Task
Your task is to watch this film with an open mind and allow yourself to laugh. And when it’s all over, why not take the time to talk to
your children about what they mean to you. Don’t leave them guessing like the kids in this film.
And if your children ever expressed a need to know how much you love them, tell them now. And the next time they bring it up, ask them
why they think you don’t love them. Listen without judging or allowing your hurt feelings to get in the way. Don’t let them continue
through life feeling unwanted, undesirable, or unworthy. Give them the reassurance they need to get through another day. I promise your
family with be happier because of it.
