Easter Story Prompts
Take an idea below, modify it, change, it, or expand on it. But whatever you do, don’t stop until you turn it into a 500 to 1,000 word short story for children:

  1. The blooming flowers look magnificent this time of year. It’s as if all the cares of the world just vanish with each new bloom.

  2. Easter lilies always grace the Preston estate. But this year someone’s been picking the lilies. It’s up to little Joe to figure out who and why.

  3. Every year spring brings new life to the world. Write a story about the birth of a domesticated animal, born in a pet store, but adopted for Easter. In the storyline, tie salvation, using the adoption to make the transition.

  4. One mother, tired of all the violence in her neighborhood, decides to host an Easter egg hunt. With the help of her local police, fire department, and parks ‘n recreation center, she helps several young men and women not only find Christ, but put an end to their constant bickering.

  14. Joe just moved to Florida where his mother works with the dolphins. They began attending church when a freak fire burns the church down. Without anywhere to host their Easter service Joe talks his mother’s boss into letting the church hold its service near the dolphin tank. Just as the service was about to begin, the dolphins and their trainers decide to put on a very special Easter show.

  15. Carolyn’s great-grandmother passed away seventeen years ago, but today, as she was rummaging through a few of her treasures, she comes across a journal. In the journal Carolyn’s great-grandmother tells the story of the day she met an Angel—an angel that not only saved her life, but introduced her to Christ.

  16. Too grown for Easter, a group of teenagers think they’re going to skip out on the Easter celebrations when the Youth Pastor invites them to an Easter Scavenger Hunt. Reluctantly they participate in the game, only to discover…

  17. A group of children are let loose in the backyard to hunt for Easter eggs, candy, and Easter baskets. As they all reach down to grab the last Easter egg, they’re transported back in time where they witness the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The little town of Bethel always host a Christian festival in honor of Christ’s birth and resurrection on Easter Sunday, but there’s a new mayor in town and he’s determined to take Christ out of the festivities. It’s up to Bryce and his friends to find the Easter Bunny and convince the major to keep the tradition alive.

  30. Pick one of your favorite Easter memories and build a children’s story around that memory. Change the setting, incorporate new conversations, add more excitement, and don’t forget to have fun!
